Dublin born fashion designer Sean McGirr has been named the Creative Director of iconic brand Alexander McQueen.
It's a major career step for McGirr who replaces Sarah Burton after 13 years at the helm. He will be joining the fashion house following his role as Head of Ready-to-Wear at JW Anderson. He had been with the company since 2020.
Sean McGirr is a graduate of Central Saint Martins in London, where he obtained a Master of Arts in Fashion in 2014. Previous roles include Women's Designer for Dries Van Noten in Antwerp. From 2014 to 2018, he was part of Uniqlo's creative offices in Tokyo and Paris working on the men’s collections guided by Christophe Lemaire. He started his career assisting at Burberry and Vogue Hommes Japan.

In previous interviews he said that he had outgrown Dublin when he left in 2010 and went to London as a "way of creating my own social identity". The Alexander McQueen brand, founded by Lee Alexander McQueen who died in 2010, has many celebrity clientele including Lady Gaga.
