A Dublin estate agent has given one big tip to help those who are currently looking for a place to rent.
Clare Connolly, MD of Clare Connolly Estate Agents in Dundrum specialises in letting and selling property, primarily in Dublin’s Southside. She said that she has never seen anything like the current housing crisis in her career.
But the housing expert has given one key bit of advice when it comes to making your application stand out when you're looking for rental accommodation.

She told Dublin Live: “Have a little bio drawn up, who they are, where they’ve come from, all the information just to make it a little more personal. It might stand out from the other applicants.
“At the end of the day, it’s the landlord who makes the decision, they’d be guided by us but they would make the final decision. So anything to help stand out from the crowd but it’s such a tough situation, hopefully it changes.”
Clare empathises with those on the search for a house in Dublin. She highlighted how tough the market is at the moment and the way she deals with it.
She said: "In my career I haven't seen a frenetic rental market. There’s such a sense of desperation for the small number of properties that are available.
“You’ve students looking for properties, you’ve corporates coming in from outside the country and you’ve refugees looking for accommodation. It’s just so difficult for any tenant out there. My heart goes out to them because it’s quite stressful for agents as well because I never received so many emails or calls begging for help.
“There’s such a short supply out there. You can’t help but empathise. If we put up a property to rent, we get a huge number of inquiries. We’ve to take the advertisement down after about 30 minutes, it’s the fairest way to do it in this market.

“The fairest way to take on applicants is to take on the first 30 and then invite a portion of them along for the viewing. There’s no other way to do it in this market.”
Earlier this week huge crowds gathered to view a house in Drumcondra. The stark reality of the renting crisis in Dublin was laid bare this week as “easily 100” people attended a house viewing.
Ben O’Donnell, who currently lives in Stoneybatter, was one of those people who attended the viewing. He got a text around midday yesterday to attend at 8:30pm in the evening - and he was “baffled” when he arrived.
He told Dublin Live: “I turned up early, I arrived early at about 7:30pm so I went to the shop and when I came back at 8:00pm, the queue, I was baffled. There were easily 100 people there."
