A 200-year-old pub in Dublin city centre has recently reopened after refurbishment and looks better than ever while still retaining its Victorian charm.
The Oval on Middle Abbey Street has been reopened after a complete refurbishment recently. The pub was established in 1820 and is housed by a beautiful Victorian building with most of its period features still intact.
So whether you’re going for pints after a Croke Park game or a play at The Abbey Theatre, or you’re just looking for a cozy place to catch up with friends, this pub is definitely worth your consideration.

With over three floors of seating and a large function area with its own private bar facilities available to rent, the size of your group does not matter. They also have an outdoor seating area.
The Oval has long been renowned as a great place to watch games and they show all the major sporting events on widescreen TVs. It’s also within walking distance of Croke Park so it’s great for those heading to and from there.
The pub is in a strategic position not only for sports fans but for culture lovers. It’s close to The Abbey Theatre, The Gate Theatre, The Academy and a number of other theatres, cinemas and clubs.
They also have Live Music every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm which showcases the best of traditional Irish music
When it comes to pub, they serve full Irish breakfasts and they have an all day menu with your typical pub grub like chicken wings, seafood chowder, mussels, burgers, sandwiches and fish and chips.
They also have chicken curry, half roast chicken, beef and Guinness pie, and risotto. But it is their Irish stew that they’re truly famous for. Prices there are not too bad either, for example the strew is €15 and the fish and chips is €18.
They serve food from 10.30am until 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 12.30pm until 9pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The pub has over 2,000 reviews on Google with an average rating of 4.3 stars. One reviewer said: “Good food, good times, great staff and the tunes were hopping after the rugby.”
Meanwhile another one wrote: “Especially recommended if you stay to eat. The upper floor offers a good view of O'Connell Street. The prices seem lower than the average for the area”
The old-fashioned charm of the place has also been praised, with one reviewer saying: “Amazing Irish bar and restaurant in the heart of downtown Dublin. Victorian inspired interior decor.” While another one wrote: “The fish and chips and the chicken curry were spot on. Takes you back to the 1800!”
