The fate of Sinead O’Connor’s former Bray home is set to be decided on Monday.
‘Montebello’ on Strand Road in the Co Wicklow town was home to the late singer for 15 years before she sold it in 2021 for €1.04M.
BBA Architecture, on behalf of Rachel Carthy, lodged a planning application with Wicklow County Council in May last year, but the council refused permission on grounds that it would be out of character with the streetscape and would intrude on views of the protected structures in the vicinity of the site.
The new owner has appealed the council’s decision to An Bord Pleanala.
A decision from the planning organisation is due on Monday. In the appeal, it was noted that the esplanade/seafront “is not an Architectural Conservation Area” and that the refusal was “not justified”.

It added that the scheme “will not impact on protected structures nor protected views” and “relative to the scale of buildings beside the subject site, the proposed development is not (sic) have a material impact on the character of the Seafront”.
Since her funeral, fans have continued to place tributes at the late Nothing Compares 2 U singer’s home.
Thousands lined the street outside her home last month as her funeral cortege stopped for one last time, while President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and U2’s Bono and the Edge among the mourners who attended a private funeral earlier that morning.
A coroner’s report compiled by the authorities in London has not yet been released as to the cause of death.
