Gardai are growing concerned over false claims that have wrongly identified others as the suspected attacker in last week’s stabbing in Parnell Square.
Gardai are set to approach a news outlet after an article claimed the main suspect in the attack which saw three children and a crèche worker stabbed, has his application to remain in the state supported by two Irish NGOs. The article does not name the person, but goes into detail about the person’s status in this country over the past number of years.
Sources say the person the article is in fact referring to a completely different individual - who is not the suspect. The suspect, who is an Algerian national, remains in a coma in a hospital - and therefore Gardai have been unable to question him to date, the Irish Mirror reports.

Gardai are understood to be extremely concerned about the spreading of false information and are set to approach those suspected of spreading it. Officers are understood to be set to approach those who published or spread the false information in an effort to combat misinformation.
There is also growing concern over completely false information which claims that gardai are preventing the family of the five year child who is critically ill in hospital from speaking. The false claim, which has circulated on social media for days, also claims without evidence that the condition of the child is being withheld from the public,
A well placed source described the claims as “disgusting” and “nonsense.” There remains grave concerns for the child’s health and her condition is still being described as critical.
