Gardai have thanked a man who pulled a patrol bike from the River Liffey after it was dumped during last week's riots.

Thursday’s mayhem caused tens of millions of euro worth of damage to the capital city, with garda cars, buses and trams among the property vandalised.

Good Samaritan Richard showed there is still plenty of goodness out there after he pulled a garda patrol bike from the River Liffey and returned it to officers at Pearse Street on Saturday.

An Garda Siochana said on social media: "It’s important to remember that there are plenty of good people out there. Richard from Dublin heard that one of patrol bikes was thrown into the Liffey on Thursday night, and he took it upon himself to try recover it on Saturday.

"Richard so kindly returned our patrol bicycle to us at Pearse Street Garda Station on Saturday afternoon. Thanks a million!"

Gardai are currently appealing for video footage or images of scenes from the riots. An incident room has been established at Store Street Garda Station and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed as officers continue their criminal investigation into the violent unrest that occurred last week

A garda spokesman said today: "An Garda Siochana wishes to acknowledge the significant volume of support received from the public to date including calls to Store Street Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Phone Number and receipt of images and videos from members of the Public."

The spokesman continued: "The investigation team are requesting that any person who was present in Dublin City Centre on Thursday, November 23 and may have video footage or images, in any format, to contact Gardaí at Store Street Garda Station via email at store.street.public@garda.ie, with their contact details only."

The public are not requested to submit any footage at this time. Members of the investigation team will make contact with them to arrange for the appropriate collection of any video footage.
