Heroin worth €8 million seized as two men arrested

Revenue and gardai intercepted a light aircraft and a vehicle in South County Dublin and County Kildare today

Two men have been arrested as Revenue and gardai have seized heroin worth €8 million this morning.

The arrests and the seizure followed the interception of a light aircraft and a vehicle in South County Dublin and County Kildare.

Two men aged in their 40s and 60s have been arrested on suspicion of organised crime activity and are currently detained at a Garda Station in County Kildare under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. Investigations are ongoing.

A Revenue spokesman said: "As part of ongoing joint investigations being conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Revenue’s Customs Service, targeting transnational organised crime, diamorphine (heroin) with an estimated street value in excess of €8 million was recovered on the morning of December 1, 2023, following the interception of a light aircraft and a vehicle in South County Dublin and County Kildare.

"Two males aged in their 40s and 60s have been arrested on suspicion of organised crime activity and are currently detained at a Garda Station in County Kildare under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. Investigations are ongoing."
