The 2023 Oscars nominations have been announced and Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin stole the show this afternoon.

Two Irish actors are in the Best Actor category, Colin Farrell for his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin and Paul Mescal for his role in Aftersun.

The Banshees of Inisherin had further success with being nominated for Best Picture. Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson receiving nominations for the supporting actor category while Kerry Condon was nominated in for best supporting actress.

Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin was one of the big stars at the announcement ceremony. It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Original Score.

Colin Farrell was nominated for Best Actor for his role in the film whileBarry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson receiving nominations for the supporting actor category and Kerry Condon was nominated for best supporting actress.

Maynooth native Paul Mescal picked up a Best Actor nomination for his role in Aftersun. An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) has been nominated for Best International Feature Film.

Irish editor Jonathan Redmond is nominated for Best Editing for his work on Elvis while Dubliner Richard Baneham is among the nominees for Best Visual Effects for his work in Avatar: The Way of Water's.

The Northern Irish film An Irish Goodbye was nominated for Best Live-Action Short.

Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin is expected to be successful today, with stars Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan all anticipated to pick up nominations. Paul Mescal is in contention for a Best Actor nomination for his role in Aftersun while Women Talking star Jessie Buckley will be hoping for a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

There is also hope that the popular Irish-language drama An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) will be nominated for the Best International Feature Film category. Meanwhile, Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon's My Father's Dragon has its eye on being nominated for the Best Animated Feature category.
