Rioting began this evening in the wake of a shock stabbing incident which left a child seriously injured
Widespread chaos hit Dublin in the aftermath of a shock stabbing this afternoon.
Five people, including three schoolchildren, were hospitalised after an incident on Parnell Square shortly after 1:30pm. Outrage quickly followed and rioting broke out later on in the evening.
Garda cars were vandalised, a bus was set ablaze and shops were looted as the city descended into violence. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris previously hit out at those responsible for the disruption as "lunatics".
A five-year-old child remains seriously injured at Temple Street Hospital following the incident. Gardai have confirmed that a man amongst those hospitalised is a person of interest in their investigation.
Transport came to a grinding halt due to the severity of the situation. Both Luas and Dublin Bus services were suspended out of an abundance of caution.
