Behind the lights, make-up and cameras, Muireann O’Connell is just like the rest of us. She is struggling to purchase her own home and even admitted that she "cannot afford to at the minute".

But the Virgin Media star is making the best of a bad situation and has recently spruced up the home she's living in with her fiance.

Muireann has spoken out about Dublin's property market in the past as the dream of buying a home becomes more and more unattainable for many.

She said: “I’m just after seeing a tiny “two bed” (it’s one bed and a wardrobe) with a starting price of €424,000. I forget I’m on a good wage sometimes because stuff feels so unattainable and for single people - how the hell can they do this.

“I realise that I am unbelievably lucky to be in the situation I’m in and that others have it properly bad. Just really interested in who can/will buy those properties. Hello investment funds.”

Muireann dreams to own a house of her own one day. She tweeted: “I have never owned a house. It’s a dream of mine. Sad these days that it’s a dream and not a definite one for so many.”

The Limerick woman has a small but cosy home with her fiance who she calls 'The Housemate'.

Muireann recently took on some DIY to freshen up her home. The TV presenter recently shared her experiences as a tenant as she redecorated her current home. The 39-year-old revealed she tries to keep a low profile as a renter in order to keep onto her home.

She said: "We finally decided to spruce up the house a bit.

“You know when you're a renter and you don't think you're going to be in a place for long so we never settled ... five years later... It's time! I still have stuff in boxes. Living like a student as an auld wan."

“We prefer not to say things to our landlord. That’s our decision.

"We’d like them not to know we exist so we’re not kicked out, although they’re lovely. We’ve been here so long we’re basically squatters.”
