A number of food items have been taken off supermarket shelves recently after being recalled over food safety fears.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued several Food Alerts or Food Allergen Alerts in recent months for certain batches of products, including meat, sweets and treats. Some of the affected products were for sale in supermarkets including Dunnes, Lidl, Tesco, SuperValu and Aldi.
Households are being encouraged to check cupboards, fridges and freezers for any implicated batches, which have since been pulled from sale. Any shop that stocked the items will have point of sale notices posted in their store and will give customers a full refund for returning the affected product.

The FSAI explains: “Food alerts are notifications issued by the FSAI to official agencies and food businesses or other businesses relating to an identified hazard i.e. a biological, chemical or physical agent in, or condition of, food/food contact materials with the potential to cause an adverse health effect.”
It has advised anyone with an affected product to not consume it and return it for a full refund. Below are some of the current recall notices in effect:
Rose Bakery Bites Coconut Bites
A batch of Bakery Bites Coconut Bites have been recalled as egg was detected in the product, despite being labelled egg-free.
The FSAI said: "Egg was detected in the above batch of Bakery Bites Coconut Bites. The product is labelled as egg free and egg is not declared on the list of ingredients. This may make the affected batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of egg."
The affected packs are 170g and have a best before date of 02.06.2024.
Toxic Waste Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy
Toxic Waste Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy has been recalled over choking fears. The FSAI said: "Toxic Waste Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy is being recalled as there is a possibility the rolling ball may detach which could cause choking. "
The implicated products can be identified by their barcode (EAN: 898940001016).
Dunnes Stores Simply Better Italian Calabrian Salami and Sausage Pizza
A batch of Dunnes Stores Simply Better Italian Calabrian Salami and Sausage Pizza has been recalled after it was mispacked.
The FSAI said: "The above batch of Dunnes Stores Simply Better Italian Calabrian Salami & Sausage Pizza was mispacked with Dunnes Stores Simply Better Italian Piccante Pizza. This product contains egg which is not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the batch unsafe for customers who are allergic to or intolerant of eggs."
The affected batch has an L.A. code 23236 and best before date of 05/24.
Flora Buttery
Some packs of Flora Buttery have been recalled as they may contain milk that has not be correctly declared.
The FSAI said: "Some packs of Flora Buttery may contain milk that has not be correctly declared on certain retailer websites (Tesco and Supervalu). The online platforms also contain declarations that the product is "Dairy-free". This may make the product unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of milk.
"The product packaging correctly highlights milk as an allergen (Buttermilk) in the list of ingredients if it is present, and therefore consumers with an allergy to or intolerance of milk who have purchased this product online from Tesco or Supervalu should check the ingredient declaration on the product packaging before consuming this product."
Lidl McEnnedy Corn Dogs
Batches of Lidl McEnnedy Corn Dogs have been recalled due the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The FSAI said: "The above batches of McEnnedy Corn Dogs are being recalled by Lidl due the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
"Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.
"Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days."
The affected products have the use-by dates: 28.04.2024, 10.06.2024 and 10.08.2024
Tesco salt
A batch of Tesco British Cooking Salt has been recalled due to the possible presence of small plastic pieces. The FSAI said: "The above batch of Tesco British Cooking Salt is being recalled due to the possible presence of small plastic pieces. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale."
The affected products are 1.5kg and have the batch code 3200.
Aldi 'The Deli' Meatster snack salami
A batch of Aldi snack salamis have been recalled due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The FSAI said: "Aldi is recalling the above batch of snack salamis due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
