Conor McGregor’s father has said his son is “no scapegoat” after it was revealed the star is part of a garda investigation into the Dublin riots.
It was revealed the MMA fighter is officially part of an investigation by gardai over alleged incitement to hatred around the Dublin riots last Thursday. We learned that following an examination of recent social media remarks by the UFC star, McGregor is now part of a wider official criminal probe which was formally alluded to yesterday by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, the Irish Mirror reports.
But on Tuesday night, his father Tony McGregor tweeted a picture of Conor in a mocked up photo of him wearing a crown, saying: “No scapegoat here.” He accompanied the picture with The Chieftain’s song, The Foggy Dew.

Commissioner Harris previously revealed to Dublin City Council ’s Joint Policing Committee earlier this week that there are now three live investigations over the horrific events of last Thursday. They involved one on the stabbing of the girl, one on the riots, and another on social media commentary suspected of inciting hate.
McGregor was also name checked in the Dail as a “gobdaw” by Labour TD Aodhan O Riordain.
During a fiery debate, he said: “ Now we have the pathetic sight of security barriers outside Leinster House, which looks to me like we have surrendered to them. That is now what we have to look at the national Parliament. Those barriers need to be taken down.
“All the while there are celebrities such as Conor McGregor, a gobdaw, and people in this Chamber who use the words ‘criminality’ and ‘immigration’ in the same sentence as often as they can to get some cheap political gain for themselves.”
Crumlin fighter McGregor caused outrage when he tweeted that Ireland was “at war” and “you reap what you sow” on X, formerly known as Twitter last week. But he since has condemned the riots as “despicable”.
He tweeted on Friday: “I do not condone last night’s riots. I do not condone any attacks on our first responders in their line of duty. I do not condone looting and the damaging of shops. Last night’s scenes achieved nothing toward fixing the issues we face.”
